The GrayGo Universal Testing Machine (UTM) was custom built specifically with composite testing in mind. The UTM has a maximum producible load of 150,000 lbf for compression testing and 100,000 lbf for tensile testing. The test compartment was designed to be large enough to house a multitude of testing fixtures so that not only standardized testing can be performed but real world loading situations can be replicated as well. The stress and strain data is acquired from a data acquisition system that has been calibrated to 100,000 lbf within an error of less than 0.09%. The UTM’s all steel construction gives the machine the rigidity needed to gather accurate displacement data used in measuring the strain in materials produced here at GrayGo. The GrayGo UTM allows for loads to be produced beyond the ultimate fracture of our composite materials, thus eliminating the need to interpolate results from small sample testing procedures.
